About us
The Grand Steam Life began with a love of the Russian banya and a wish to share it.
Why we started
In a Russian banya, time slows down. You climb onto the top bench, someone ladles water onto the stones, and a wave of soft heat settles over the room. Then comes the venik, the cold plunge, a long rest with tea, and the feeling that you have been cleaned right through.
We wanted that feeling to be easier to find in Australia. Saunas, banyas and hammams are popping up in homes, gyms and day spas, but the tools that make a session special were hard to come by. So we started sourcing them.
What we do
We sell accessories for the banya, the hammam and the sauna: venik whisks, felt hats, timber buckets and ladles, hammam towels, scrub mitts and soaps. We also write about how to use them, because a good whisk is only half the story.
The banya is our heart, but we love all three traditions. Each one has something to teach about heat, water and taking time for yourself.
Who we help
Home sauna owners, regulars at the local bathhouse, day spas and gyms, and anyone curious about trying a sauna ritual for the first time. If you have a question about any product, or about bathing in general, send us an email.
How we choose what we sell
Natural materials
Wool felt, linden and cedar timber, cotton and olive oil. Materials that behave well in high heat and humidity and feel good against the skin.
Made for real heat
Every piece has to survive regular use in a hot, wet room. If it warps, splinters or burns to the touch, it does not make the cut.
Rooted in tradition
We favour designs that bathers have refined over generations, with the occasional local twist, like our eucalyptus venik.
